I need a new couch, probably a modular one that has multiple different places i can sit+arrange stuff like computer, writing stuff) and setup a productivity war room
ADHD meds 😅
How does that go in your country?
Theyve made a big difference in my life
Any small annoyance in your daily life that causes mild stress. If you can afford it, buy the tool that solves the problem.
I was constantly looking for my phone charger, taking it into my car, leaving it downstairs and realising I needed it in bed. I just bought 4 more cheap ish chargers and now have one everywhere. Seems like an obvious solution but I was putting up with it for years not realising the mental toll it took on me daily. Same thing can be applied all across your life, if something makes it 1% easier, it’s worth it!
Other items that worked for me:
- A good tin opener, no longer am I fumbling or cutting myself with the old rusty shit one I had.
- Charger cables
- Threw out all my odd and unwanted socks/underwear. Bought new sets. No longer spending 5 minutes every morning pairing them up and avoiding the ones that didn’t quite fit right or were uncomfortable
- Double up on household items that are bought infrequently. i.e toothpaste, deodorant, other toiletries, cleaning supplies, long lasting food items. There’s nothing more annoying than knowing “I need to buy another one soon before it runs out”, then having the thing run out on you before you’ve had the chance to replace it. The added buffer item goes a long way for avoiding the potential inconvenience.
Nothing here sounds like it would be a “productivity” item, but the method saves me a good few minutes every day and it does add up. I also avoids the mental toll/annoyances which keep me in a better mood and therefore more productive.
I do all these things already, I’ve never felt so vindicated lol.
Additionally, I keep a pantry full of at least some useful long lasting staples. Some boxed and canned goods. Small bag of powdered milk. A second unopened peanut butter jar. Honestly I don’t go overboard, but it’s so useful when you decide your hungry or want to cook something, but don’t want to run to the store.
My in-laws drive me crazy, empty cupboards, empty freezer. They only buy the smallest portions of things to eat, and make exactly one meal, and then the house is devoid of food again.
It’s not a money thing, it’s a mentality thing, they’ll just run to the store when it’s time to eat again. House sitting for them is an exercise in frustration.
A working thyroid and correct immune system responses.
A mind control device that makes me think that productivity is in any way important ir desirable
What would help you do something important to you better
I don’t need any physical resources, the only thing that would help is for people to be less stupid
How likely and on what timeline do you anticipatr that
I dunno, a low output shock collar maybe?
Whys that?
I really dont want to do the stuff i need to do, so some negative motivation would help
Can you give an example? What needs to be done that you dont feel up to rn?
This is what we’re all here for, lets group-source this shib. Indulge me here and see where it goes
What do you got to lose
Okay well i have to root through my garbage for anthropology homework.
I’ve got three chapters worth of math homework.
I need to do a shitty simulation for my biology pre-lab, plus a hellish AI-generated infinity quiz plus a handwritten copy of my typed notes on the entire chapter.
My room has been neglected and so has the kitchen. I still have to fold and put away the laundry from two days ago.
I need to stat up some hazards and enemies for a tabletop game im running on thursday, and create some maps for a game im running in november.
I havent really eaten anything resembling a nutritious meal since august, so i gotta make something happen there somehow
And I need to check the mail to see if the IRS has finally sent the thing I need to get my fafsa payment
You’re not alone. The weight of all those things adding up is enough to put anyone off from starting. When it comes to cleaning, I wasn’t keeping on top of it and let it get to a bad state, then once every few months I’d have a mad day of cleaning everything spotless, nothing unturned. I thought being thorough was good but in reality it was a major reason for me always avoiding minor daily or even weekly cleaning. I often look at tasks as monoliths that need to be tackled in one go.
What worked for me is this cliche book https://jamesclear.com/atomic-habits. I’ve only read the first 30 pages lol, but the general gist of it is at the start. Consecutive small tasks are a lot easier to manage, and a lot more effective than doing it all in one go. I’m no where near perfect, but I now have the mindset of “something small is better than nothing at all”. That really can take you a long way, the results just won’t be instant.
E.g rather than clean the entire bathroom in one go and not touch it for weeks, I now clean one tiny area for 1 or 2 minutes every time I go into the bathroom. Seems like nothing, but over a week suddenly the whole thing was mostly clean. After that the habit stuck and now I just have to wipe the areas I use most daily. The rest I do on the weekend.
Still have a long way to go. Boxes piled up from moving in one year ago, but I’m slowly getting through the contents over the last few weeks.
thanks but i think a shock collar would work better 👍
Food
I don’t think a purchase would help me be more productive. Besides, like, an academic success coach to hold me accountable.
I changed the title to deemphasize purchase, the spirit of the query is what resource would help you be more effective and hopefully that benefit can be generalized or mimetic
A random one, I’m sure, but a Skinner moth trap. It would encourage me to get up earlier every day to see what moths I caught overnight, and as a result I’d get more done. I was going to buy this month, but my water main has just burst, so there goes the moth trap money.
Hard come, Easy Go
A decent quality pex press-fit coupling removal tool… the cheap ones didnt work, and im not in the mood to drive an hour to pick one up.
