  • Does it bother him when you don’t respond? I don’t know this boys particular circumstances but Western culture has a mentorship crisis when it comes to young boys and men, generally speaking.

You shouldn’t have to do anything that makes you uncomfortable but, as an introvert myself, I have come to learn that kinship sometimes means doing your own thing in the presence of others. This is really important to children since they want to feel like they’re part of something bigger.

If he’s not expecting a response to everything and you’re OK with just being together I’d advocate for that. You may find it to be healthy for both of you. Depends on your specific circumstances though.

  • You’re correct though the hope / theory is that by subsidizing the upfront expenditure of building a new factory it will eventually become cheaper to build domestically than to import foreign parts, such that the artificially boosted market share due to tariffs will persist even after tariffs are removed.

The flaw in that is that the cost of labor in countries like China, Mexico, Brazil and India is a significant factor as to why importation is cheaper. The cost of American labor is never going to be competitive against those countries unless the average worker in the US accepts substantial concessions in standard of living.

Global / multinational capitalists look at the cost of labor in those countries and figure that if a job can be done remotely, why not have it done where there are limited labor protections and you only have to pay an employee $1/hour (or less).

  • Many Americans do not care. Brains have been rotted by their social media and “anti-woke” identity politics so critical thinking is waning. They’ll pay more and find a way to not blame it on Trump.

America as a positive cultural force in the world is on its dying breaths. It was a good run. The rest of the world should be looking at moving forward while leaving America and the crypto, AI, and social networking dystopia it seems obsessed with creating behind.

The rest of the world should be emphasizing divestment in the US and, overall, leaving America behind at this critical juncture.

  • They used to innovate, no doubt. But their products provide absolutely terrible value now. Great resale, sure. But you’re overpaying 20% for the hardware you’re getting which is not the case on the Android side. The only thing iPhone universally does better is 1) video and 2) ecosystem (if all your products are Apple). The rest is a tomaeto vs tomahto situation.

Not relevant to most basic users but I could not use a phone where I did not have the freedom to sideload apps, especially if I’m overpaying for the hardware.
