Don’t communicate with people with malicious intent.
Can you give an example?
I’m a pretty big asshole.
It’s also social skills, which, as an autistic person, isn’t my strength!
Anecdotally, it can be contagious.
I live in one of those most dangerous towns in my country. We have a Facebook group where people will proudly act really nasty toward each other.
One time someone was mean to me and it was unwarranted. I think anyone wouldn’t’ve blamed me if I called her out.
I can be nasty myself. A lot. ESPECIALLY if I’m being attacked. But I’m trying to work on it.
For whatever reason, in this situation I happened to remember that I’m trying to work on it. And as badly as I wanted to be the bigger bitch, I chose to be the bigger person and I chose to respond with kindness. And I felt like shit. And I felt mad that I wasn’t “defending” myself.
It caused a chain reaction that I’ve never seen in this town. People were hopping into the replies also offering kindness to this person.
This was awhile ago and I still feel great about it. Which is another benefit.
You’re way more likely to regret being mean than you are to regret being kind.
Change has to start with someone.

ADHD@lemmy.world•Strategies for active listening in adult learning? (struggling with language learning)English
5·10 months agoi don’t know if this has actually been helpful (i haven’t been actively learning new languages due to chronic illness), but i’ve listened to my favorite songs in other languages (disney songs are great for this, probably broadway songs as well)
and when i realize i understand a certain line, i get that sweet, sweet dopamine hit, too
i suspect it’s been somewhat helpful because the languages seem more “familiar” to me, even if i still can’t fully understand them

392·10 months agoi agree, the point of my post is to clarify the misconception, especially for anyone who may have donated in the past and felt guilty about it

51·10 months agoyeah, this is what i was going for
i’m not here to defend billionaires. i’m chronically ill and probably going to die young, suffering, and in poverty. if billionaires did the right thing, not only would i probably be suffering a lot less, but so would a lot of people. we’d probably have a better world.
but here we are. :(

72·10 months agofrom your post history it seems you might not be in the us so i’m going to try and clarify
soooo i have yet to file taxes (i’m disabled and have never made enough to file) but from my understanding, how taxes work in the us vs outside of the us is different
the government doesn’t tell you what you owe or what to deduct… you tell them what you owe, what you’re deducting, and hope you didn’t mess up somewhere unless you want to be shipped off the el salvador
so i believe neither my post nor their comment is bs, but if i’m wrong i’m happy to be corrected
