All of the apps I use play very nice with scaling … with the exception of apps…

Sssssssssoooo… it sounds like not all of the apps you use work with scaling?

I’m typing this message on my Dell XPS 13 9310. I’m really happy with it, specifically the 9310 model, not other models.

• The volume, screen brightness, and keyboard brightness buttons all work great.
• Bluetooth and wifi work great.
• Touchpad and touchpad gestures work great. It’s also a decent size.
• The FHD display has no scaling issues with any apps or any distros.
• The keyboard and overall build quality feel nice.

The one thing that doesn’t work great is the webcam. It turns on and captures video… except it’s really dark. Although, I haven’t tried running Wangblows on this, so maybe it’s Dell’s fault for picking bad hardware. Anyway, I just use an Opal Tadpole webcam and that works great. Happy to answer any questions about this laptop! I use Arch, btw, with GNOME. Zoom, Google Meet, Discord video calls and screen sharing all work as well.

If you’re serious about this requirement:

DPI/screen resolution doesn’t cause scaling issues

then I would avoid Framework. I recently sold mine after daily driving it for about 1 year. My biggest complaint was the high DPI display. It will 100% cause scaling issues. You will have blurry apps and/or tiny text, 100%. People will suggest that you add a ton of config or switch distros—neither of which will actually 100% solve the issue—or use different apps—which you can’t always because alternatives may not exist. If you want to use arbitrary software like hexchat which is GTK2, DO NOT buy a Framework laptop. 🙅

I don’t know about foods, but do you know how to play a wind instrument? Playing trumpet for 30 seconds has been a 100% cure for me. Then you can get on with the eating.

What state are you from? In California, we learned Mexican Spanish. My teachers very briefly mentioned vos/vosotros, but we never spent any time on those conjugations and were never tested on them.

Although… now that you mention it… maybe the textbook was for Iberian Spanish… I definitely remember the teacher going over vocabulary, getting to the word “coger”, and then 90% of the class busting up laughing, while the other 10% was confused! 😂

Maybe we did have Iberian Spanish textbooks, but since most people in my town were Mexican, we learned Mexican Spanish from the teacher using an Iberian Spanish textbook?..

LOL, yes! 99% of my problems these last 5 years have been related to water. It’s really made me want to learn more about plumbing.

At one point in my career I cared about what I did and who I worked for I felt pride over my product and my team, and all I feel now is shame to be associated with my company, I feel disgusted with myself that I work not for my customers but for shareholder value.

But problem is, all my email address would be @mydomainname.com instead of @protonmail which millions of people use. Isn’t that just linking all your account together.

I mean, yeah. You can’t setup sockpuppets on the same service. It’ll be obvious it’s the same person. And if someone is tracking you across services, it’ll be way easier to find you. This is a con.

I would recommend not picking a domain with your real name, like smith.com or john.com. Even though it does seem popular to have me@johnsmith.com. It won’t solve the issue you noticed, but it’ll mitigate it a tiny bit.

Also, true. Ideally, you pick a common word with normal spelling that doesn’t have a homophone that’s not embarrassing to say to random people on the street. It would be awkward to be applying to a job or a loan and have to say your email is “john@piggy.park”. Also, you will have to speak your email over the phone at some point, the shorter and easier it is the better.

I would also recommend picking a domain with either .com or .net TLDs. Some companies blanket destroy your email if it comes from some weird TLD like “.party” or “.xyz”. Omg, specifically, .xyz I think has been linked to tons of spam. Bigger companies will handle this more gracefully (put it in spam). But smaller companies, like my local garbage company run by normies, will just not deliver the email. (And debugging why emails don’t get received is really hard and annoying.)

Unfortunately, a lot of people squat domains, so finding a short, simple, easy domain is really hard. I’m curious what other people do. Maybe other people just have me@reallylongdomainthaticanactuallyget.com? Or maybe other people have had better experience with john@mail.club? Or maybe some people don’t care that their domain is john@boss.baby?

Ultimately though, having email independence is valuable enough for some folks to be OK with the downsides.
