  • They don’t. They play the victim a lot more ways than that.

For example: you don’t go to church. They think “Christian values are under attack.” You argue for civil rights. “The right of the White Man is under attack.” Shit like that. And they will call you a fascist, a socialist, a communist, everything but what you are, which is a nonconformist, for not doing exactly what they want you to do.

A conservative, by the simplest definition, is one who opposes change for the sake of change. The ideal of “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” The problem is, while the system may not be broken for them (WASP), it needs work for people of colour, the LGBTQ+, Palestinians, and more. But they don’t want a world that works for the rest of us. They just want to maintain the status quo. A lot of them have much more complicated feelings and opinions than that, but that’s basically conservatism in a nutshell. Not extreme. Unfortunately very few conservatives are basic conservatives anymore.

  • As an older guy who struggles with slang… I’ve seen it used by guys and gals alike, but sometimes it seems to be the girl equivalent of wanker.

Worth noting that wanker is predominantly a British phrase that refers to a masturbatory act but generally refers to a person who lacks certain social graces. Like a jerk. I like saying aho in Japanese — same thing. But wanker has a class all its own, along with most British slang. You get it or you don’t.

My current understanding of the term gooner is that it means “porn addict” of any sex, gender, identification, or orientation. And while gooning does seem to refer to the masturbatory act, it seems to specify while porn is being watched or otherwise consumed.

  • Reddit will tell you why you were banned. It generates a PM with the reason and a link to the offending post.

For example, I was banned for inciting violence towards a protected group of people… in reference to saying child predators should face stiffer legal penalties. Someone took it the wrong (or maybe right) way because their president is in the Epstein files. Honestly I wasn’t even thinking of him but if the prison jumpsuit fits… anyway, it was not a mystery to me.

I did appeal in case AI flagged me but a human upheld it.

But as to why Lemmy is better in that regard… more open platform trying to improve upon the formula of those that came before. Also run by people not corporations. And not operated by the GOP.

  • Because people who kill generally don’t get released. Murder one or “Murder in the first degree” means premeditated and typically carries life/death sentences. Murder two is more like heat of the moment, you come home and find your wife in bed with another man… those carry sentences of a decade or more. Below that you’re in manslaughter territory which is more like accident/extenuating circumstances and those people get years too.

Child predators get time, too, but they never get rehabilitated because there’s no cure for it. They’re always going to want to ruin some child’s life, and they’re going to want to do it a lot, to ruin several kids’ lives. So there’s a registry for them, and they can’t live near schools, churches (ironically), day care centers, and such.

As for those asking what the term means, please do the community a favor and downvote people giving wrong answers trying to be funny. Chomo is street slang for child molester, and the word is derived from “homo.” So the word “homo” makes sense, it’s just short for homosexual. Put a C on it and the first sound is “Ch” like child. So it’s someone who targets children. Never thought I’d see the term up here though. Guess Lemmy is getting popular.

  • Gen X here. My mother (boomer, hippie) would have friends over and they’d smoke, they’d send the friend’s kid up to my room, upstairs and around the corner. Didn’t matter if the door was open or closed, they were in the makeshift den (converted garage) stoned outta their gourds. I had a few girls up, and I remember one flashing me and being nervous about it. Looking back I think she was giving me a hint, somewhere between “I wanna see yours” and “come get this.” But I was a dumb teenage boy and I think I just played on the Nintendo or the computer (had both in my bedroom). But yeah, had a few girls up there, and it didn’t matter if we had the door open or closed, if we wanted to hook up, our parents wouldn’t have known (except my bedroom was directly above the garage, though my mother would also play her records, so maybe they wouldn’t have heard thumping).

Straight guy, but again, I wasn’t really interested in hooking up in those days. And when I say “friend’s kid” I mean boys or girls, as young as 5 or 6 and as old as 16 or 17. I was 13-15 when I lived there. If it was a little kid, I was designated the babysitter and would entertain the kid. I was pretty good at it. Only one or twice was it a girl my age. About half the time it was a boy, and about 3/4 of the time they were way too young — not that I was really into girls, or enough to try to make a move even if they were the right age. They were all, as the guy says in Fight Club about airplane neighbors, “disposable friends.” Or was it “single-use”? So I never made a move on the girls my age; whether they were attractive to me or not, we just played Nintendo or computer games or looked at comic books or something.
