Because society has decided parental rights override teenage autonomy. Runaway and they’ll call the cops, who will return you to them, or if they want to be asses, throw you in juvie. So you maliciously comply while expressing your utter disdain for them until you attain the age of majority, then you abandon them and move on with your life. At that point you become a wage slave, have to live somewhere, and much like Dark Helmet, realize you’re surrounded by assholes.

I’m in a strange boat. My bio mom was young when she got pregnant so I was put up for adoption. My adoptive mother was a cold, cruel woman who was emotionally and physically abusive; adoptive dad just ignored it and told me to not upset her. She did things like withhold medical attention to extract confessions about things I’d done she didn’t know about, destroyed personal objects like toys/clothes/cds, told me she didn’t love me but was legally obligated to take care of me, left me on the side of the road when I was 6 so the coyotes would eat me, stoked fears of a werewolf under my bed so I wouldn’t get out of it after she put me in it (needless to say, I pissed the bed well into elementary school because of that, which I got beaten for).
I had a lot of rage as a youth, though almost exclusively self-harm. Found punk in my teens and channeled the rage for my mother into rage at authority in general, and eventually found productive means of achieving that rather than mindless violence at whatever I think oppresses me. Still, 30yrs later, I love to thrash and be thrashed in a pit and the measure of a good night is “am I bruised and bleeding”.
But, I found my calling in dog rescue and training, a career where cruelty, heavy-handedness, and force are ill-serving. It’s a field a lot of men struggle in (unless they just beat a dog into submission) because the mannerisms and bravado the define how western society tells men they should act will make a scared, under-socialized, untrusting dog reject them. The terrified, the deaf, blind, wheelchair bound dogs are my specialty because I have an inner gentleness the, by social standards, would be called effeminate. I’ve helped hundreds over the years and it is one of the proudest achievements of my life.
I found my birth mother well into adulthood. She’s a hospice nurse and cat rescuer whom I share an uncanny amount of personal quirks with despite zero association aside from genetics. We’ve become wonderful friends and I have integrated into my bio-family after 20yrs of no contact with my adoptive one. I did get one boon in my childhood though. One set of grandparents were the kindest, gentlest, most loving grandparents anyone could hope for and quite likely the reason I didn’t end up a total sociopath or suicide.
I mean, when I saw them the singer had a strap-on flamethrower and later spanked the keyboardist’s bare ass with a jizzing dildo. I don’t think they’re unaware they have a gooner theme.
Trial and error. The lentils always cook faster than the beans and my recipe is 1c lentils and 4c of mixed beans. In my cooker running about 8min longer than the recommended time will leave my beans tender and intact but reduce the lentils to a filler consistency like ground beef. The same method works well for making vegan chili.
Once a month I fill the pressure cooker with a variety of beans, brown and/or red lentils, peppers, onions, jalapeños, garlic, and sometimes kale, mushrooms, whatever is around. I overcook just slightly so the lentils break up and become my “meat”. Then I freeze most and slowly work through it over the month using it at work for lunch burritos, nachos, in ramen, over rice, etc. Cheap and handy and is the staple of my diet.

I think Vance’s response depends greatly on if he takes direction from his handlers in Heritage Foundation or if he gains an ego and believes he’s the new cult leader. They learned their lesson with Pence who, with the obligatory “fuck Mike Pence”, still wasn’t invested enough to commit treason.
Vance just doesn’t have the twisted charisma Trump has to be the cult guy. Heritage knows it, but they knew he had a shelf-life and only needed to get in and secure their position. If Vance does what he’s told he doesn’t need to be Trump, and if the regime continues to disregard democracy, the courts, and even declining public opinion among conservatives that rode the wave but are now leopard fodder, they don’t need another Trump, just an institution to defend. These fuckers are embedded and will be difficult to remove.
Defense isn’t about helping people escape consequences, it’s about making sure they receive a fair trial and the consequences are appropriate for their crime. Even with this system there are still wrongful convictions and police/prosecutorial misconduct.
Many years ago we had a deadly DUI crash that the local news went apeshit over because the story was easy to hype. Drunk driver kills a young mom, dad, and their 3yo daughter. It was covered non-stop, until it came out during the trial mom and dad were high as kites on meth and pulled out in front of the drunk driver when they should have waited for him to cross the intersection. Dude still got convicted, he was driving drunk and killed three people, but his sentence reflected the dad’s impaired driving and what that contributed. Also, as soon as the news couldn’t sob story their coverage they dropped it, barely a blip when the verdict came out.
Demographics mostly. Blue city in a red state. The downtown clubs rarely had hecklers, gigs in the outlying towns were more likely to draw ire for the material. How people handle their drunkenness is also part of it. People who are assholes sober seem to feel more entitled to blast their opinion while drunk, and not surprisingly I found a lot more of them in the suburbs.
I never invited hecklers back when I was doing it, but I did figure out which clubs and which nights tended to draw certain crowds that were more likely to heckle and was kind of mentally prepared to deal with it.
When the Idaho legislature banned Pride flags on public property to punish the City of Boise for flying one at city hall, the mayor and city council adopted the Pride flag as the official city flag. Best part, city hall is two blocks away from the state capitol building, so the bigoted fucks get a nice view of it when they’re at work 😊

I don’t know that you could get that much opposition that deep into DC without the regime having a lot, lot more security, and I doubt they’d be as non-lethal as they were against the bulk of the J6ers. Locally it’d be a fight against the police, National Guard, and all the Rittenhouses who have a thirst for blood and would finally have an excuse to do it assuming they’d be exonerated. Americans have enough access to guns they could revolt, but the cost will be high and the people they’d be fighting are well equipped. But I’d point out Seattle has been successful in some of their rebellions, so unless the regime was willing to send in military grade artillery and level city block, you could probably capture areas and keep cops/National Guard at bay. However, I think Trump and Kegsbreath would absolutely bomb Seattle/Portland/Chicago/LA if given a reason. Waco 2.0.
And my point is that regardless of whether he successfully steals them, suppresses them, intimidates voters, even if opposition wins big, without teeth to back up any action they take against him (like impeachment), he’s in a position of power that he needs to keep himself and all of his cronies out of prison. A win for the opposition, even if the opposition breaks with Democratic leadership and starts coming at him hard, is just delaying the inevitable fight to be rid of him and his regime. The opposition wants to obey the rule of law, and that’s a good standard, but we’re dealing with a person in power that ignores the balance of power, defies the courts, and has the support of law enforcement. He keeps calling our bluff and letting us play by the rules while he breaks or ignores every last one to the applause of his base. How many of his supporters did we see lusting for a Putin-style strongman that puts on the facade of elections and democracy but would never concede to the will of the people? They’ve found their dude and will fight just as hard to keep him in power at the expense of democracy as he will. People need to be willing to defend more than the right to vote, they need to be willing to take action when voting occurs but the results are ignored.
Dude helmed one of the biggest child sex trafficking rings in history, whipped his loyalists into a coup attempt with false claims of “stolen election”, suffered no consequences for that, came back promising revenge, pardoned his convicted loyalists, turned them into a private army that has been given carte blanche to murder peaceful opposition, is operating death camps, has kidnapped and murdered the leaders of foreign countries with impunity, routinely ignores those in his own party and Supreme Court when they occasionally oppose him, is threatening all sorts of voter suppression (up to cancelling elections), defies the Constitution by calling for a third term, is backed by a cabal of the most wealthy and powerful individuals in the nation who are also clients of his child sex trafficking ring, is beloved by the nation’s police forces, has seized total control of the military, and has already ignored every check and balance that exists because he can. You can flip the entire Congress blue but unless they find someone who can physically extricate him and his cronies from their positions, he can ignore every impeachment, court order, and protest if he says “nah, I’m staying”. You really think his backers have worked this hard to gain control just to lose it in two years to the will of the people, the people they know would have a helluva time matching them blow for blow to force his removal?
Don’t not vote, but don’t be so assured winning at the polls translates into the first step of over-throwing the regime. I mean, what are you going to do if voters say “time for you to go” and his response is “fuck you, make me”?
Make sure the jail will accept the donation before you stock up. Different institutions might have different approved supplier lists because there have been issues with contraband as well as administrators who just like to make having even the simplest of comforts as difficult as possible. Having been a volunteer with the incarcerated, don’t forget that depending on where you live you might have a lot of folks who don’t read English and would appreciate books in their language, and middle school/high school reading level books might be appropriate for some of the folk’s current reading level. I’ve generally found that public, school, and college library discards can be arranged if there’s no middle man handling the books. Even slightly outdated textbooks are useful for people studying for GED or learning ESL.

Day training and rescue. You could probably get AI and a robot to teach Pavlovian conditioning in a controlled environment (screen shows symbol, dog gives appropriate response, machine dispenses treat), but behavior modification, leash training in different environments, manners, social conditioning around other dogs/people/animals? A substantial number of humans can’t even train their own dogs to sit, much less behave in public. That’s why I have a job.
