  • First definition from your link:

conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern characterized by that which is considered usual, typical, or routine

I’m guessing the other person meant “the way it should be” not in a normative way but as in “the way you’d expect it to be since that’s the usual way”. That’s in line with the definition. Bottom line is both have several definitions but “normal” definitely has a very different connotation from “common”.

  • I completely agree with you. Of course you’ll find plenty of marginalized groups among activists since they’re sensitized to it and it affects them directly. But that’s still their choice.

I see this rhetoric a lot in very chronically online queer spaces and the issue I’m seeing (other than obviously putting unjustified pressure on individuals who just want a normal life) is that it reinforces the narrative of every queer person being part of “the woke left” as a homogenous blob. I think that’s very misled. Also sometimes in my opinion people are literally just jealous of someone’s passing status so they make up insane stuff to try and bring them down. I mean it’s perfectly fine not to care about passing but you don’t get to judge others for how important it is to them.

Just live your life as the woman you were always meant to be and enjoy that you have the option of doing so. You’ve put in work to get to that point. You don’t owe anything to anyone.

  • I do that all the time, my cat doesn’t try to get out. She’s 10 and not used to being outside. She likes exploring the attic but that’s about it. Cats used to be kept on ships and other rather confined environments. Trust me, they don’t give a shit as long as they’re entertained.

Also you’re moving the goalpost by bringing up dogs. And while it’s true that cats generally spend less time around each other that doesn’t mean they prefer to be alone all day every day. I like living with a flat mate and yet we rarely actually speak. Company comes in many varieties.

  • Absolutely not true. First of all some cats do live in loosely connected groups and can be quite social. Yes, they spend a lot of time on their own but they’re not all solitary. You can keep a cat alone (depending on the individual, some just do better with feline company) but you need to spend time with it every day to play. Also inside-cats can be very happy, healthy animals. It’s arguably much safer for them and the environment too. More and more people decide to keep their cats indoors and it works great. You just can’t do it to a cat that’s already used to going outside.

I recommend Jackson Galaxy on YouTube for more information. There are a lot of myths around cats.

  • It’s only been legal here for a year but before that I used to ask shady looking people at train stations or in parks. Those usually sell hard drugs but they can still be of help. It’s a clichee but it’s genuinely reliable. But like probably don’t do this. Easy way to get scammed or mugged for a kid.

And I’ve been high on weed plenty around my parents. As a teen I generally didn’t have much of an interest talking to them so they probably didn’t suspect anything when I fucked off straight to my room after walking the dog. Would not recommend that for the first time though. Best to do it at a friend’s house.

  • German (my first language) is actually very phonetically consistent. Generally speaking if you know how it’s spelled you know how it’s pronounced. A lot of languages work that way, many of which use the Latin alphabet. English is a bit special being a Germanic language with a plethora of Romance loan words and almost kind of a case-by-case spelling situation. So right off the bat this idea would probably be pretty inconveniencing for non English speakers while providing little to no benefit for anyone. If you want to standardise letter pronunciation I’d probably do it similar to Turkish so “A, Bee, Cee, Dee, Fee, Gee, Hee, I, Jee, …” and so on.
