I don’t lift a damn thing and regularly swipe spoonfuls of peanut butter.
I’m probably gonna mess this quote up, but I thought it was brilliant:
“Privacy is essential to security, and shitty people feel entitled to take that away from you.”
You can’t be secure in your dealings or operate on equal footing (economically speaking, as others here have pointed out) without a measure of privacy.
In my experience, the “quickest” are more fuel efficient than the “fuel efficient” routes, which take me through residential areas (where every intersection is protected, meaning a stop sign in at least 1 direction) or stair-stepping on county roads where the speed-up/slow-down cycle negates the benefit of driving on slower roads.

Noah, get the boat!
Are you kidding? OP is getting us to write their Master’s thesis in Marketing right now!
They’re associating it with your debit/credit card, unless you’re buying with cash only. Also, the “identity” isn’t so much the target as the “profile”. Don’t get me wrong, if they are able to personally identify you, the communication will be much more… personalized… (good english) - mailings, texts, emails and coupons for stuff either you’ve bought or adjacent to your stuff (with better margins for the store) addressing you by name, grouped with other purchase-history items. But back to the profile: building a profile of your likes, dislikes, brands and such is valuable data that gets more $ for corporate as the fidelity gets higher. And as it does, the messaging to you gets more targeted.
Oh, so like a regular automatic transmission.
My 2012 caravan 6s-auto just ate itself last month. Minimum $4k. The van isn’t worth that.
Genuinely curious; aside from required maintenance, you don’t seem too overly jazzed about CVTs - may I ask why?
“…soaring up all the lists that matter…”
Maybe, objectively, our methodology for measuring greatness/worth is flawed.
As long as first-past-the-post elections are the norm, any political scheme will distill to two opposing factions, because that’s the only way to effectively compete. We must push for ranked choice voting.
To your last point, yes. The average user doesn’t even glance at the permissions before blindly accepting them. It is also true that an alarmingly high number of users/consumers /don’t care/ about basic privacy concerns that affect things like targeted ads, PII, and information that could be used to affect things like credit score.
Revanced forums are straight-up toxic. Any setup questions are smugly redirected at the unusable documentation, as you pointed out. For some reason, there’s an elitist attitude in that group.
Setting aside the conflation of “5 minutes” to “5 seconds” for a bit just to say: setting up ReVanced is a gigantic pain in the ass. I’ve only ever been on the android platform. I’ve sideloaded apps. Also been in the technology industry for almost 3 decades. The documentation is dog shit. The official user forum r/revanced, (iirc) is a fucking circlejerk. Their own faq and top pinned “definitive install guide” post is out of date and just plain wrong. Down thread, whenever someone has questions (inevitably, because the documentation is fucked (see previous)), some smarmy asshat has the audacity to direct the confused newb to the same flawed docs.
I swear, fanatics are their own worst enemies. Now, I’m not saying you’re a fanatic. But sideloading that app in 5 mins (or seconds, depending on which sentence you’re relying on)? Yeah, bullshit.
The moment of inertia on that upper deck is going to snap those seats like a twig. While I’m sure there’s airline execs foaming at the mouth and lobbyists pushing wheelbarrows of money, I’ll drive before I get in one of those.
Also, more passengers plus less overhead bin storage means less cargo hold capacity, meaning air cargo (a valuable income stream, particularly on transcontinental or transoceanic flights, where the widebodies would be most used) would be cut back by more checked bags. And more discontent by pax that now have to pay for checked bag fees.
I dunno, I just don’t see the benefits.
For what it’s worth, my congress cretin is loving polishing trump’s asshole and ceding away congressional oversight to the executive branch. At a town hall lady week, he said that the DOGE department was always DOGE, they just changed the acronym (wat?!) and it was always under the executive branch, not an independent federal agency.
