Crystal hot sauce is my goto. Tangy and just the right amount of heat to casually throw on anything if you don’t want to go into battle mode. Frank’s come close. Surprised that I’m the only one mentioning Crystal.
Secret Aardvark I think would be my second goto if you aren’t looking for a hot sauce with the acidity of Crystal, Tabasco, Frank’s, etc.
I guess to be fair, there are some local places around me that make sodas, which probably are reasonable ethical businesses. Depending on how many bourbon colas you’re drinking, it might be worth paying extra for an locally made soda if possible. If you don’t have someone that makes soda locally (which is probably likely), maybe consider buying from “gourmet soda” brands like Hank’s.
Administrative bloat. At my university, if my lab lands a grant, 60% goes to the university and only 40% is used for actual research. There’s a long chain of people whose jobs are to answer emails, and they all need to be paid.
Almost all soda is produced by a corporation run by psychopaths. Your best bet is to stop drinking soda.
Lemmy. For more niche communities that don’t exist on Lemmy I use RSS feeds on specific subreddits. Discord for chatting with friend and other niche communities. LinkedIn because I’m in academia.

I mean, I’m not calling for a police state to shut down cake day or something. Just saying cake day was a shallow activity imo. People can choose to do whatever they want, but I would rather us think about what was actually valuable about reddit rather than just importing whatever preexisting culture there was.
You’re getting a lot of retorts in response to your comment, but I 100% agree. Sure telling people happy cake day is fun the first few times, but it inevitably just becomes stale. One of the things that made reddit not enjoyable was people parroting the same phrases all over the site.
I hug my guy friends when I haven’t seen them in a while (e.g. my friends who live far away). Snuggling is super weird, and I don’t know of any guys who have done that. Feels like if I did, my wife would not be very happy. Affectionate fighting seems just over the top. Seems like something limited to children and movies.

Personally I do not let internet trends affect my behavior out in the real world. Why is that? Because if I use the term “short king” anywhere in the real world, 99% of people won’t know what I’m talking about. Until you hear a real person say it (that means not on lemmy, not on twitter, not on dating apps, etc. or people you meet through these platforms) you can assume that there is no real impact to be had there. I think we give way too much credit to the internet for affecting real life trends. Most people don’t care about these cute terminologies people come up with, and neither should you. The term was made to get someone attention, not to make short people feel better.
Probably because depending on the context “Christians” is likely referring to “Protestants.” There are some very significant differences between Catholic and Protestant Christianity, moreso than between Protestant denominations, whose differences tend to be a bit more trivial. Other comments make some good points, but it is not too far of a stretch to say that Catholicism may be different enough to be considered a separate religion (I don’t know who gets to draw these lines). But in the most technical sense, yes, Catholics are a subset of Christians.

Feels like you should use cocoa powder or instant coffee/espresso instead. Seems like you’re trying to add bitterness, but the fact that the chocolate you are adding also has sugar, it is making things more challenging to balance.

Nope. Matcha is meant to be ground fine enough such that it suspends in your liquid and is drinkable without filtering.
Is there a tea like matcha that would be good to cold brew?
Sencha or any other green tea can be cold brewed. I’ve never done it myself, but pretty sure you just throw tea in some water and let it sit for a while. I’ve never done it myself, so just look up “cold brew green tea.” Granted, this will only be like matcha in flavor and not in mouthfeel. Furthermore, if you plan on adding milk, this is probably not the best route to take since green tea is generally much weaker than matcha, so adding milk eliminates any semblance of flavor from the tea.

The matcha will settle out if you let it sit. However, you can just shake it up again and then drink it after letting it sit.
Matcha is traditionally made with water. Using milk, like in a matcha latte, is a newer trend. Look up a traditional match recipe using a whisk. Note, I know that most people do this with ceremonial grade matcha, but I’m not sure if people do this with lower grade matcha (for example, the bag you might buy at Costco). It sounds like you are probably not using ceremonial grade, so I can’t vouch for how good it will taste. However it’s still worth experimenting with.
“Cold brew” matcha doesn’t really make sense. The goal of cold brew is to extract flavor from coffee/tea leaves over a long period of time using room temp/cold water. However matcha isn’t really meant to be extracted, it’s meant to be suspended in a liquid and drunk. If you want a “cold matcha drink” rather than specifically cold brew, I would try just throwing some matcha with some cold water in a mason jar, pop the lid on, and shake it up. Then just drink immediately.
Can you give an example? I know that some people have a hard time with the strong smells, but I honestly have never heard it made fun of in any demeaning way. Maybe at worst a character has a bad time on a toilet due to the Indian food being so spicy, but I can’t think of how it would be made fun of. Seems well loved here in the States in my experience.
I mean, all of those communities are for cheap consumption of content. There’s a difference between wanting to discuss food and wanting to see and endless feed of bacon cheddar loaded fries.
TBH, I think I dislike it only slightly less than reddit. Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea of the fediverse and what not. However, I see a lot of posts around here saying that lemmy is so much better than reddit, but I don’t necessarily agree. Culturally I see a lot of the same behavior between the two. The main difference is there are a lot less “Facebook-like” posts and way more tech nerd-centric opinions. I would even argue that there is a lack of cultural balance. Like most of the people here are extremists in one way or the other (this includes me), and there are less “normal” people. I think this is probably what some of the users here actually want because they thirst for the “good ol’ days” of forums before some of nerd culture leaked into the mainstream, but I’m not sure it’s my cup of tea. Furthermore something that is sort of both a feature and a downside is that there is way less content here for obvious reasons. It’s nice not to have an endless feed, but again, due to cultural imbalance, there isn’t much variety. I love using linux, but I don’t know if I care to have my feed engulfed by it. I’m not sure if the time I spend in Lemmy is really a net positive, just like how reddit felt. I’d say the most positive aspect of reddit was I could subscribe to a city specific subreddit and actually get news and info that is useful to my day to day life, whereas the info here is just useful for keeping me in my house or absorbed in work.
Please do not tell me to suck it up and contribute my own content. The point of this comment is not to get the community to “fix” lemmy for me but simply to relay an observation.
