JovialSodium@lemmy.sdf.orgto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is the definition of concurrent vs cumulative?2·5 months agoEdit: I typed out two sets of the same numbers, one in a row, intonating one after the other, and the others in a column in an attempt to impart the idea of all at once.
My Lemmy client put both on single lines, which is confusing. So I removed the original comment.
JovialSodium@lemmy.sdf.orgto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do man-made hiking trails keep the grass from overgrowing the dirt portion of the trail?18·6 months agoI built an office shed in my back yard. Almost all the grass is gone where I walk between the back door and the shed. I do this fairly frequently, but I’d think still quite a bit less than an even lightly trafficked hiking path.
I’ll put some stepping stones out there eventually.
On a Pi4.
I was running it on a VM on the home server but then any downtimes that machine had were also HA downtimes. Decided that mattered enough to run it on it’s own hardware.
JovialSodium@lemmy.sdf.orgto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people insist on not answering ALL the questions in an email or text message?6·6 months agoConciseness and directness help.
As an example, there was someone I worked with that tended to ask around a question.
“What do you know about x? What do you know about y? What do you know about z?”
Instead of “How do I get from x to z?”
I think they just want to understand the underlying process. And I can understand that. But I wasn’t their mentor and it was at times frustrating.
Not suggesting OP is doing this. Just a general thought I had in regards to the question.

JovialSodium@lemmy.sdf.orgto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: Removable drives/thumb drives are potentially dangerous in Windows 11146·1 year agoAn hour old post about Windows on the Fediverse and no one has said use Linux?
Use Linux.

If there’s no voice chat, text based chat participation is considered optional, and the in-game community isn’t toxic, then I might get chatty.

You could combine something like backblaze with syncthing and get both. And you wouldn’t lose syncing if your cloud storage provider became inaccessible. There’s a self hosted aspect to that, albeit an easy one so perhaps still not something you want to do? Felt worth mentioning though.
I am but a single humble meatbag that enjoys games and can’t speak for all gamers, but I generally dislike the typical “gaming rig” aesthetic. I don’t want RGB lights. I don’t like ostentatious looking cases or accessories. I do find it tasteless, to reuse your term.
No sleight on those that do though. If that’s your style, then enjoy it!
