They’re using it for who knows how many dozens of things - simply a look at task manager on windows. They’re preloading heavens knows what to make the users experience better.

RAM is there to be used. You’re never using too much ram until you need to use more ram than you have. I’d have no issue with my windows using 60GB of RAM while “idling” if it makes the experience better, which it could.

Piefed’s features are why its community is how it is - an echo chamber that encourages dogpiling, unfair blocks, and bans.

Those are in no way the same thing. Lemmy having community descriptions that individual mods and admins can lie in is not the same as Piefed having automated “hey everyone, block and ban these users preemptively!” messages or banning everything that’s not on one side of politics.

I’m sure I’m tagged by default on Piefed already as “low quality” or something of the sort, purely because people downvote me because I’m not in the echo chamber of allowed opinions. Over the last few days I’ve had like 300 downvotes to about 15 upvotes just on about 3 comments in the one topic, where my comments are 100% factually, undeniably, demonstrably, correct - but people don’t like it because they think it’s “pro Apple”, and the echo chamber says they have to hate Apple.

That would make Piefed put a giant target on my head, wouldn’t it? Basically telling everyone “block this guy and ban him from your communities”. Lemmy doesn’t do that.

You also have a curated-by-you list of banned sources, which includes basically everything anyone left of centre would call “right wing”, which in reality is anything that isn’t left wing biased. Lemmy doesn’t.

Yet even with lemmys people being like that, their software is free from bias and authoritarian-style features that are made to stifle free speech and to encourage an ideological echo chamber, unlike Piefed.

Piefed is ideologically driven by the creator, and encourages pre-emptive banning and blocking users who don’t just participate in echo chamber behaviour.

Lemmys devs might be ideologically captured too, but their software isn’t, so it’s the better option.

How are you checking what closed source systems are doing?

You have no idea what Android or iOS or Windows or any other operating system is doing in the background though, you just think it’s “bloat” and “inefficient”. I guarantee you that the people making these OS’s know more about it than you, and are making it as efficient as it can be.

They aren’t stopping reporting subscriber numbers, what are you talking about? They’re dropping from reporting it twice a year to just once a year. Annual growth is really all that matters after all. What matters far more is revenue, profit, and cash flow - all of which are still reported regularly.

Stock prices falling after earnings calls is basically the norm because no matter how well they go, even beating expectations, some people wanted more - and you can’t ignore the market manipulation by big players who try to manufacture drops so they can increase their position. Spook people to sell and drop the price so they can buy more at a reduced price.

Netflix met or exceeded their targets as they have basically every single time for years. Their revenue grew double digits, their margins are getting healthier, and their viewing hours increased.

It’s also easier to control scraping by requiring an account.

The product is as described on the box, it’s just not what we were made to believe it would be otherwise, so a chargeback is not the right way anyway. Not buying the next game by that company until after release and a bit more time is the way to go about it. I know I won’t buy another battlefield for a few months after release.

Ah interesting, I guess that’s where the confusion is coming from - here in Australia cinemas pretty much all have you buy tickets at the food and beverages counter which is well inside the building.

I disagree, I loved BF3, and BF4 (not at the cluster fuck broken launch, but 12 months after release), but that doesn’t really matter.

I didn’t buy any after that because yeah I agree they were garbage, but I bought 6 because after putting in tonnes of hours in the beta and being massively impressed at how it appeared to be a return to 3’s style like they specifically said, I didn’t think it would all be a lie and that the full release was basically just the crappy games again but with new problems.

On EA as company, I don’t really care either way. If they release a game I want to play I’ll buy it. I won’t really care if the company are “evil” or anything.

Also if you have problems reading ”dune”, take it up with the people who made Dune. Netflix etc have to use official art and logos.

It did nothing of the sort for the universal income thing. In every country where they started printing money to hand out, inflation skyrocketed and everyone is still feeling those effects today, and likely will forever. Debt for those countries absolutely exploded.

I want a true universal income trial, long term, where all of the necessary tax changes are made as well. Covid didn’t do that. If anything Covid made people think a universal income will never work.

Throwing money around has never been a problem for the government. Doing it properly without negative consequences is the thing they never seem to be able to understand.
