It is never free to actually capture it, and it usually reduces the efficiency of the process you capture it from. Compare for: turbos use “wasted” positive pressure exhausted from the engine. Sure, but in the process they make it harder for the engine to expel exhaust gases. They can only improve efficiency when done well and at the cost of greatly increased complexity and maintenance needs.
If you install heat capturing, 1) you need to adjust the design of the system to adapt it; 2) you impede the heat dissipation efficiency of the system, which you then need to address with additional engineering. It can be done, but it’s not free, and the math on the costs and benefits doesn’t necessarily come out positive. If there is one thing I trust the industry about: if it can be done to save a buck, they are doing it.

So either you can get the required chilling capacity using a relatively low amount of electricity, or using a shit ton of captured waste heat. Building a big plant just so you can run a chiller on the waste heat is probably not the most logical path. And now you’re also capturing the heat from power lines or what?

Compressor chillers with gases like in typical AC have a cop over 3. Why would anyone design district chilling with 3-5 times lower efficiency than that? All that matters is how much energy you spend. Heating that kiln would take more energy if you steal some of the heat for another job, there’s no free energy.

Oh I hate leafblowers so fucking much. The noise is penetrating everything, and, especially with the loudest gas ones, the worker adjusts the throttle constantly. So the brain doesn’t get a second of at least monotonous noise to concentrate on something else, it instantly revs up and commands attention.
And the whole concept is so stupid. Stir up all the polluted dirt so it can get into people’s lungs, houses, and all kinds of surfaces. Blow leaves from the curb on the road, so cars can keep stirring them up, and push them back to the curb eventually. Blow the shit on the guy next door’s driveway, because poor overworked and underpaid landscaper, standing out there in the heat and sun, deafened by the fucking thing and getting lung cancer from the fumes and dust, cannot care less they just need to be done with that one driveway before getting a heatstroke.
Either get a broom or rake for small stuff around a residential property, or the sweeps-and-vacuum machine to actually clean up stuff in larger areas, like parking garages, roads, etc… ban fucking leafblowers, and ban all 2 stroke gas power tools in public places. Amen.

I find it very easy to install and use. Drivers work fine out of the box. The window and desktop management is my favorite ever, so it stays on the home desktop. There are a few things like flatpaks from the cosmic store not always working properly, and you need to remove them and install stuff from deb packages instead. And I couldn’t get any clipboard manager app to work, I think that’s related to a more general wayland issue, but nevertheless frustrating.
