Filing that info for later, thanks!
I’m here because Lemmy.World keeps going down and Beehaw activity plummeted after defederating from the larger instances.

Sync is the only app I know if that does that right now but I could be wrong.
Edit: and now I know Connect can too, there you go OP
It’s my turn to ask the question tomorrow morning, I call it.
I’m so happy this is the top comment when I came in here. We’re not centralized social media that requires constant content generation to acquire more views and we shouldn’t try to treat it as such. Donate to your instances when you can, contribute to communities you care about with posts/comments, and then when you reach the end of your feed log off. How forums are supposed to be imo.
I’d be surprised if you hadn’t read it already, it’s Mort by Terry Pratchett. I’ve been meaning to start Discworld for ages but kept finding excuses and finally started my journey reading them in chronological release order. I really wish I started this series sooner. What an absolute delight it’s been!
I keep seeing you pop up in comment sections. I almost finished my book last night just a few chapters left and I promise I’ll post something to your instance to promote activity lol
It’s like a Midwestern US word for surprise or exclamation, commonly used in place of “whoops” or even “oh”. It’s also common in Canada from my understanding. Somebody from lemmy.ca feel free to correct me there.
Nope, I have cats and it’s still only one way. I’m sorry but we can’t be friends with that attitude.
Unimpactful trait? I’d say if they put the toilet paper the wrong way, if you have to ask which way is the right way we can’t be friends. Also if they don’t return the shopping cart, instant way for me to lose respect for you.
I consider cats unethical but the other animals get a pass.

Gotcha, I misread your intention, my bad. I agree it’s less than great but unfortunately anywhere there’s people those types will eventually find their way. As we found with the centralized platforms and are now finding in decentralized platforms too. I like it a lot more on the decentralized platforms though, since they’re all pretty much contained to those instances that we don’t federate with so I never have to see them. I’m a NIMBY towards TERFs, racial supremacists, and anybody remotely similar lol
They have a ton of lgbtq, socialist, poc empowerment, and environmentalist newsletters you can sub to as well. Not sure what your point is, if you don’t want the toxic newsletters don’t sub to them? That’s like trying to disparage Lemmy as a whole because exploding heads exists.
That’s what I’m finding too, a lot of them give you just a couple paragraphs and then demand a subscription to keep reading. I’m all for supporting creators but a lot of substacks are so aggressive with it.
My guess is that it’s just an equation of energy input and time spent. Is it worth removing the problem comments if they keep coming back? How much time as a mod are you willing to spend removing and banning people like that? I can understand taking the approach they did. Personally, I think maybe just locking the thread would’ve been a better compromise. But I’m not a mod here nor would I want to be lol
