  • Saying “my point is valid” does not make an argument valid. You’re presenting as a 2nd year computer science student who is mad because they just learned that Microsoft is less than trustworthy. Who read an article about toxoplasmosis recently.

Most of the devices connecting to Home Assistant are using air gapped, non-wifi networks. A lot of them don’t have a TCP/IP stack, much less a radio capable of connecting to the internet.

Home Assistant is an open source project. It’s not a thing constructed by a company for sale. You are in a lemmy instance talking about it, which is why the people reading a post about a version update to it, know what it is.

Yes, there could be a magical way for “them” to secretly gather data on everything you do. But at that point they don’t need the smart devices.

  • I settled on a SPH-10BT a few years ago. It didn’t have backup camera support though IIRC there is a radar add-on, but don’t know how available it is anymore.

It seems insane to me, especially with the prevalence of Apple/Android Auto, that no car company is willing to have the phone be the supplemental screen in the car.

That there’s no built-in phone mounts in cars still bugs me. Put wireless charging on a spot on the dash, NFC/Bluetooth to get it to automatically snap into car mode. Don’t have to develop an in-house UI that everyone hates and can focus on making a car.

  • FWIW with zigbee I’ve had better luck with zigbee2MQTT and then using MQTT. If nothing else it made it a lot clearer what was/wasn’t a router and what was just and end device than the native zigbee integration. ( I was getting very frustrated with a less capable no-neutral wall switch. )

Might just be placebo but it feels like there are cheaper/longer batterylife zigbee sensors than there are zwave.
