Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Starbucks CEO defends a cup of coffee costing $9English
32·1 month agoWho goes to Starbucks anyway? That place would not know what a coffee bean looked like if it rained beans. I’m lucky to live in a place where there are the most coffee shops in the world; over 9000 independent coffee shops with some amazing beans.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a gadget or appliance that you purchased that you would wholeheartedly recommend to others?
2·1 month agoFew things. One is a home vacuum seal machine. I can keep food for much longer. Just vacuum seal it. Never thought I would ever use it that much. Secondly our Chinese toilet with inbuilt massage shower head to wash my ass. Most people refer to it as a Japanese toilet. The cleanliness feeling after it hits the stream right on target, is just the best. These unfortunate underpaid people can burn down all the toiletpaper warehouses in the world.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is US rail travel so expensive?
271·2 months agoI truly don’t understand the railway network in the US. Living in China now and the high-speed railway is amazing here.
It takes 4 hours from the center of Shanghai to the center of Beijing and next year will be cut to under 3 hours.
And nothing to do with but the US is a big country. China actually has a larger landmass than the US and I can go from one side of the country to the other by high-speed train.
It’s cheaper, more comfortable than by plane. They even have high-speed sleeper trains now for these long journeys. Japan, South Korea, Europe, UK, and even African countries like Morocco have proper high-speed rail.
The lack of investment in infrastructure in the US puts it decades behind the rest of the world. I guess the money for infrastructure goes to worthy causes like invading Venezuela and Iran.
Edit: the continent of Africa is building a high speed railway network connecting 60 cities throughout the whole continent. That is how far the 3rd world country of the United States of America is behind. https://africanagenda.net/african-integrated-high-speed-rail-network/

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?
6·2 months agoAs a white European, who has lived in worked in the USA for a few years, worked with a fully 100% Japanese enterprise and now living in China for the last 7 years, I can wholeheartedly say China. I made myself swear I’ll never work with Japanese again. It’s the most frustrating experience. My project was supposed to take 9 months but ended up taking over 3 years due to indecisiveness from the Japanese. Plus the working hours are insane with the drinking afterwards. China is much better than Japan workwise. Also I don’t know why you left nature out of the China list. Nature is amazing here. For me personally living here is great. The infrastructure with public transport and high speed railway is second to none. Plus the daily convenience because of the super apps like AliPay and Wechat. It’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t been here. Luckily a lot more people are discovering China thanks to the visa free travel now for most countries - except the US of course. It’s amazing to hear/see these tourists being shocked how good and normal life is in here because they get fed only negative propaganda back home. China is not North Korea.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why don;t most of us Americans only need like one foreign language to pass high school? Why not make it mandatory for like 3 or 4 languages?Would that not give us the upper hand when traveling?
1·2 months agoBecause all you need to know is in the Bible. Earth is 6000 years old. Dinosaurs are an invention from the woke left. Jesus is white. That’s the curriculum for ya.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I am an American. I used to be proud of my country. Now it feels like a turd circling the drain. Is there anything going on behind the scene that America is actually doing good in?
172·3 months agoThere is this video about some American traveling and complaining that everywhere he goes people look at him with disgust and disdain. So there is that.
Entire Reddit because it’s run by right-wing cry bitches. I almost wanted to say Fuck u/Spez.
Because I got perma banned from Reddit after making a comment that all these ICE losers will never get paid or will get their sign on bonus. And that after 3 years they will be back sucking immigrant cock behind the Wendy’s. Apparently that is violation of rule 1 inciting violence. Which is total BS. Other people post much, much worse and actually death threats. Reddit definitely also bend the knee to the US authoritarian regime and any view other than nazisme is banned.
Anyway lemmy feels a much more positive place here except the formula 1 lemmy. That sub is so incredibly toxic.

Indeed.
