There was a little movie about the 18th century baroque composer Vivaldi. From my memory (like 20 years ago) it showed him using a modern violin bow. And the music played was from recordings using modern instruments. My area of expertise is early music so it pissed me off.

Late in my first year of grad school, I was tasked with showing a possible applicant around the college. One of my friends at school heard he was applying. She knew him from undergrad and told me he was a nightmare but didn’t go into specifics. Since I worked directly with the head of my department, she pleaded with me to tell them to reject this guy from the school. Even before she told me about him, I could tell from my brief interaction with him that he was prick, but I didn’t feel comfortable going along with that. His application got approved.

Cut to a year later, me and her are having to file detailed harassment complaints against this guy because he was indeed a nightmare. The school put him on probation. He kept causing all sorts of problems for me, her, and other students. I really wish I had listened to her.

What books are “illegal” in the US? I really don’t know what you are referring to. Are you thinking of red states banning anti-racist and lgbtq books in local libraries?

Clothing sites nearly always make my phone (iPhone 13) run hot after a few minutes of browsing. Often the phone as a whole will start to get really slow (thermal throttling?) and I have to force quit the browser and maybe even restart iOS.

For me I’ll prefer shorts if the temps are at least somewhere in the mid 60s Fahrenheit. I run hotter than most however and prefer colder temps.

I think most people go there now to order sugary drinks. I have to be extra clear I don’t want any sugar or syrups. They put sugar in their iced coffee by default now.

Recently I ordered an iced black tea. I said no sugar and the guy then asks “do you want lemonade with that?” 😐

After trying some more search terms combinations, I see two mice now from Microsoft that resemble the Magic Mouse. But I’m really struggling to find anything else?

What I’m not finding is my dream mouse, which would have an ergonomic design, lots of customizable physical buttons like my Logitech mouse, but with an additional 360° scrolling input (either a touch sensitive area or a trackball (sized large enough so dirt clogging wouldn’t an issue)). It just seems like an obvious product to me; I’m surprised it doesn’t seem to exist yet.

Oh, I just buy the Pillsbury orange cinnamon rolls in a can. 😅

Until I was like 23 I didn’t know how to cut and peel an avocado. I would peel the skin off in chunks with my fingers like it was a giant boiled egg. It was a very laborious and frustrating process.

I don’t understand how drivers know if they have enough time to go through a yellow light. I don’t drive anymore but for the short time I did I dreaded yellow lights.

I’ve noticed this problem with a lot of media made in the past decade. I think Netflix’s ‘Ozark’ is one of the worst examples. In almost every indoor scene the lights are off or very dim.

However, I got an oled screen this year, and it’s helped a lot with dim scenes. I’m guessing hollywood is calibrating for expensive high contrast screens like oled and mini-led?

“But How Do It Know? - The Basic Principles of Computers for Everyone” by J Clark Scott. It’s a short self published book aimed at laypersons written in a very simple, sort of conversational style. Through the whole book he guides you to building a functioning computer that does some bitwise operations. I built most of the computer in a simulator program called Logisim (https://cburch.com/logisim/).

I’d recommend it if you’re looking for an easy introduction to the topic. It was a fun read for me. Get the print version; some of the diagrams in the Kindle version are badly compressed.
