From what I searched, cellulose from kelp is different from cellulose from trees, from a properties perspective, so it seems it only acts this way on land is because it’s on land. Maybe the need for a stronger material built trees for them to be the way they are, not having a need for a strong trunk can make an inpact on the evolutionary path of those beings.

It could be that the environment primed trees to need this structure, while ocean beings never experienced the evolutionary force to build some structures in the same way.

The chemical structures that make a tree a tree would be very different, lignin and cellulose will act different on alkalyne environments, pulping for paper uses very alkalyne (like pH 13) solutions to change the chemical bonds that make the wood “hard”, turning them into loose fibers. Also water infiltrate cellulose, so osmotic pressure, ion pressure, etc, would change how the tree structure would form.

Water pH (water in the ocean is alkalyne, different from the varied soils we can have), water dynamics and currents (whater moves, soils do not), temperature delta (the deeper it goes, there are different temperatures), source of nutrients (carbon cycle on the different soils we have vs the ocean nutrient cycles), sunlight availability (sunlight might change based on the particulates present on the ocean, in different seasons, etc, in a higher variation than above soil), etc. Ocean dynamics is very different than continental dynamics (or island dynamics).

It depends, if it’s a problem I’m trying to solve, if it’s a presentation that I’m going to do, if I need to communicate with someone. Like I thought about responding this, while trying to observe how it works.

Normally there are a lot of monologues happening at the same time and I’m probably listening to music too, so I’m like 30 seconds thinking about something, pass to another something and then the good part of the music comes. I took ADHD meds once and damn, this completely disappeared hahahaha.

But, depending on the thing, if it’s a concept I’m trying to tackle, normally it’s just me alone passing through it, its ramifications, consequences, basis, etc. If I’m trying to talk to someone, I like to imagine them and interact with myself playing as them. Basically, on the racist framework of society, black will always be bad, being black as the worst and lowest of the social hierarchy. Being mixed, means almost white, almost there, so a white man is the necessary status to be or feel white, also kids would be whiter. Going with a black man means going back, retrograding into a state of blackness, etc.

I’m not saying this about these women specifically, but at the structural level, what is expected in relation to race.

This seems a very simplistic way of seeing racism. Like, to me, complex human interactions and systems cannot be simplified in this manner:

Some are expressed as formulas (priviledge+power or prejutice+power) with the key concept being power.

There’s a lot more nuance than this. If you’re thinking about structural racism, the legal, the opportunity given, segregational, educational and societal (even if not official) factors of racism, that’s what I think it is, the amalgamation of various factors into the added institution of racism, as they are at the structural foundation of our modern society, not just a guy being racist, not just priviledge, but the educational access for black people or laws implicitly made to keep latinos out of legality (some examples).

It’s not that simple. Check this and this as they’re a good start.

And, to the question, in the definition I just gave, the question:

To what extent is the standard structural definition of racism structurally racist?

Doesn’t even make sense, as describing the ways racism prevail in society is not racist, because the definition of racism is a lot different than this.
