Ah, well, it does have a desktop mode, but it’s Linux + KDE, not Windows. It can probably do what you want, but it would be some adjustment to the new environment.

+1 on the Steam Deck train. I’ve been in the hospital the last few days, it’s been a godsend, playing Silksong between doctor visits.
You can get a dock if you want a full sized monitor or a real mouse & keyboard. The deck also has two trackpads, which is sufficient for slower mouse games like city builders while in handheld mode.
Because Valve is selling a lot of Decks, game developers are starting to use it as a watermark for low-end performance when tuning their games.
I will admit the Deck’s CPU is a few years old, you can probably get a faster portable if you really want, but SteamOS makes things pretty easy. Technically I can drop the Deck into desktop mode with a Linux KDE environment, but I can’t remember the last time I had to. Maybe when I was trying Minecraft?

Yeah. Line 3 used different rolling stock than the other three lines, unusual linear induction motor powered equipment, which was reaching the end of its service life. The plan was to shut it down in November 2023 and temporarily replace it with bus service while they built a Line 2 extension to serve the neighborhoods Line 3 used to. Unfortunately, a train derailed in July 2023, which resulted in the system shutting down four months sooner than expected.
The Line 2 extension is going to take a different route to eventually arrive at Line 3’s old terminus. I think there’s plans to covert the old line 3 viaduct into a Bus Rapid Transit guideway.

As if increasing bicycle throughput isn’t increasing vehicle throughput. They’re vehicles, and can probably achieve a higher passenger density than individual cars can on a city street.

Well, There’s Your Problem, a podcast about engineering disasters, with slides. Not as dry as it sounds, a lot of it is taking the piss out of the people in decision-making roles who made the disaster possible. The video version is recommended for afore mentioned slide decks; none of the hosts actually appear on screen.
Probably around (0, 0.5)
It’s only in the last 150 years that information could travel any faster than a currier ship or rider. Before the telegraph and the radio, information traveled at roughly the same speed as goods or soldiers.

The Ankh-Morpork League of Temperance* has been petitioning the Patrician for months trying to get a vampire onto the City Watch. The Campaign for Equal Heights and the Fresh Start Club have already gotten dwarves and zombies onto the force, so it’s only a matter of time.
* They’ve sworn off the red sticky stuff, oh deary me, yes.

I most frequently encounter these when feeding the cat, so in that case I have a spoon out already.

Surprised no one’s brought up Futurama yet.

I don’t know if Mr Rodger’s was shot on film or video, but either way, the flame was glowing in a wavelength the camera couldn’t pick up. Either it was a color that the chemicals in the film don’t react too or it’s not something the electronic sensors were sensitive too. Probably a high frequency violet bordering on ultraviolet. TV cameras are optimized to record the frequencies of light the human eye can see, making allowances for cost & technological capabilities. They may not work the way you’d expect as red fades to infrared or violet goes towards ultraviolet, especially when using 70’s or 80’s TV cameras in the price range of PBS.

Both of those mice have weights you can add or remove to your liking. Maybe you took a few out of the old mouse so it was lighter?
The data brokers can still sell your data, it’s just a lot less useful to the marketing teams or scam artists that are buying it in bulk. For identity thieves, it may become more valuable, at least until word of your death works its way through the system, as there’s no living person to contest the impersonation.
Terry Pratchett wrote, “Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?” but I don’t think he had data brokers in mind when he wrote it in 2004.

Shortesy is a spin off of Letterkenny. Great show, so long as you’re comfortable with some blue comedy.

I’ll take the UK version any day. Robert Llewelyn did a great job as host. Did anyone ever have a successful build using hydraulics?
GeForce 256 on my first Windows computer when I went to college. Before that, I was using motherboard graphics on a series of Macs growing up.
Interesting use of terms. In Discworld Dwarven society, being lowborn would be a good thing and while being high born is only one step below surface dweller. The dwarves are ruled by the Low King (or Queen). The lower you are, the deeper you are in the mine, and the more rich and important you must be.
At the end of the Strange New Worlds musical episode, after the curse is broken, there’s a cover of the TOS theme that didn’t make it onto the album.
