Tailscale exit node?

YouTube costs, what, $25 per month to not show ads?
I reckon Facebook and instagram would be in the same range.
Oh, it was an Italian restaurant but not in Italy. It was in North America. The menu was in English.
I was sitting in a restaurant the other day and staring at the menu. It was Italian and none of the things made sense. Too wordy and not clear what was meat and what was fancy cheese. The waiter was utterly useless - too busy to help and when present, not answering my questions about what would be a good simple pasta in white sauce.
I took a photo and asked Claude what’s a good white sauce pasta which would be like Alfredo.
It found two options I hadn’t even looked at. AI is good at sorting through complexity. But I don’t just mean AI as in LLMs. It needs a lot more tools and knowledge to be useful. So what you need is a smart system which may or may not have AI as a component.

Your system probably goes to sleep. Not just screen but also hard disk sleep. Install Amphetamine on it and its companion app. They will work as supercharged Caffienate and keep the system awake even at lid close.

Put VMware fusion or VirtualBox on it, install Linux, give it all the resources that the system can spare…
Then run OpenClaw on it. 😆😆

It’s a corp. It absolutely can and will and has many times in the past made claims and not followed on them.
One example - they said Google Photos will remain free forever for high quality photo uploads. But the moment they reached critical mass of photos needed to train their AI models, they switched to a paid model for higher quality photos. Leaked internal discussions said as such. They chose to make claims and then backtracked on them.

Go self report to HR right now (so they read it on Monday morning). Say you’re willing to apologize publicly and do any communication training. If HR is aware when the VP goes to them with the complaint, they might have something to defend you. Lay it on thick - say you got triggered and shouldn’t have sent it and you definitely need the job because of financial difficulties and it would mean the world if the company (and that HR specifically) supported you in this difficult time in your life.

A little confused here. Some of the examples you mentioned are already features of obsidian (if not others).
Search all notes that have a certain text as heading? Obsidian’s general search has that. Count number of words in a note or a text selection? That’s generally available in the app.
Do you mean - I would like to reference a note in another note and in the übernote, it should tell me how many words there are in the former note? Maybe a plugin exists for that.
Or the table example - do you want to extract the text and automatically show it in another note?
Isn’t that what note embedding does?
![[OtherNote#^mytable]]
Or, if you want to actually use the data and not just show it, then I believe you need to use DataViews.
Please let us know other examples of use cases that might not be present in Obsidian. You’ve raised an interesting topic!
Also, the people who said that you should put everything in the metadata are idiots or trolls. While you can build metadata over time, it should not be your main focus. The focus should always be your notes.

The problem with the tobacco analogy is that you can buy a pack of cigarettes and walk away, then study it at peace. You cannot run any kind of testing on the shithole systems of Meta without their permission and involvement. That’s how you know every such independent study will be tainted by Zuck’s dirty hands.

Scrapes from Netflix?

Why were you watching it? It’s a shit… show!
No but seriously… sail, people!

I seem to recall reading once that the launch cost was down to $10,000 for a cubesat now.

Yeah, they really need to start building RAG supported models. That way they can actually show where they’re getting their data, and even pay the sources fairly. Imagine a RAG or MCP server connecting to Wikipedia, one to encyclopedia.com, and one to stack overflow.

It’s not easy. LLMs take so much training data that at this point, their training data is basically, all books publically available, all blogs on the internet, pretty much all of tumblr, Reddit, stack overflow and every forum you can think of. Even then, some LLMs need even more data. So companies have started outright stealing data - pirating stuff, downloading stuff from Anna’s Archive, etc.
So no, no billion dollar company can make their own training data. Even if you plug in every email ever sent on Gmail, Google still won’t have enough data to train a good LLM. So they go with the cheaper option- training data that has already been collected, sorted, cleaned, and labeled.
In one sense, they’re again stealing others’ hard work - rather than cleaning their own data, they use public data sets. In another sense, even that’s not enough.

OP, you mentioned Mouse as an example in a comment. You’re on the right path - it would have been trivial for Cypher to program (or have Mouse program for him) a mini Matrix where he’s uber rich and everything he wanted. Of course, it would get old real soon.
I reckon Cypher would even have mentioned it a few times to people… things like “man, I miss meat” or “man I wanna be rich af”. Most would have taken his words as just bluster. Others would equate it with Mouse’s actions - a coping mechanism or just a temporary relief.
But the reality of it - only the machines control the real Matrix. Only they decide what gets in and out, barring a few hacks like the one that got Neo out and the others out.
To plug a full fledged human back in would require quite a lot of work. As the mania of wanting back in would have gripped him, Cypher would have left clues back in the Matrix and the machines, as someone else said, would have groomed him to betray.

Same here. One solution is - sleep sooner. Force yourself to sleep an hour sooner than you regularly do. Also, tell yourself before you sleep that you’ll wake up at the same time you usually get up. Say it out loud, not just mentally.
Once you do these, your mind will be alert to wake up sooner and will actually try to wake you up whenever there is a disturbance. Also, the added hour of sleep will help you long term.
There may be loads of extenuating circumstances- kids, work pressure, your spouse wanting to spend time with you. Make a deal with them. Say you’ll pick up extra work around the house or spend more time with the kids or for work. Whatever it takes. In a few months time, you won’t need the extra sleep. But your mind will be more alert.
Hope this works for you. It did for me for the time I did it. Then I slipped and I again can’t wake up no matter what. I do wake up if someone calls me when I sleep sooner though. So that’s nice to retain.
I did that once as part of an escape from Google. Just downloaded everything to thunderbird and then severed the link. Then thunderbird became my source of truth for emails. Whatever I needed to delete, I did (subscriptions, ham emails, et) and then I uploaded to another vendor which was much cheaper for the starting tier. I can skip that last step.
Just make sure to severe the link so thunderbird doesn’t do anything stupid. But you can also take a backup of your inbox in case thunderbird does do something silly.

Most TV apps end your trials and even paid accounts immediately. Apple rather enforces that they have to give the paid subscription till the end of the term. That’s why I like paying through Apple.
Sounds like you rolled your own Tailscale. Good on you!
