Even before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it had occurred to me that the US disproportionately spends much, much more on military might than our allies do. Europe pulled a good one on us, ensuring they could lead more carefree lifestyles with first world social safety nets while we take on that heavy burden of being the sentry guard of the entire western world.
However, we made promises of security to Ukraine in return for their nuclear disarmament. It isn’t right that we turn our backs on them now.
Trump is a simpleton. He doesn’t truly understand the long-term butterfly effects of the decisions he’s making.

As a white man, it means nothing to me when someone uses my race against me. The historical context of oppression doesn’t accompany the insult. However, there have been times in my life when minorities have excluded me or shunned me for my race, which sucks, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to internet war over it.

I don’t know, I just grab them and put them in my cart when I go to the grocery store. I’m going to buy them no matter what they cost, so why bother worrying about it? Holy shit it’s like 75% of the country has gone insane.

Yeah, one of my parents likely isn’t getting anything from theirs, but the other did, and I’m sure they’ll have it all spent. My wife’s family is the same; the generational wealth ends with her parents. We’re fucked, as a whole generation.

I set up the Atom and it isn’t great at picking up voice commands. It also seems to have trouble with stability.
Lemmy.ml leading up to the election.

If you think there was a genuine argument to not vote for Harris over Gaza war crimes, you were amongst those successfully manipulated by Russia. That argument was entirely of America’s enemies’ making as a means to get Trump elected.

Homelessness in Japan is illegal, so people turn Internet cafe pods into “homes”.

What new level of hell is this?

Did they alert authorities? Hope you’re doing better.

Well, you see, it all started with Steve Bannon playing World of Warcraft…

There is. Viva insights doesn’t even track keyboard and mouse activity as far as I know. It’s about teams usage, meetings, calls, chats, etc.

Microsoft Viva Insights will really fuck you on this plan. There’s just no escaping it anymore.

I haven’t worked for almost a year. Mostly, I wake up, play video games, eat, and do some work around the house. There are pretty bad days where I feel worthless and tell myself pretty negative stories, but I’ve gotten much better at ignoring them. Now, I’ll be going back to work soon, and I’m terrified of losing my total free time.

This resonates well with me. However, still struggling with the last sentence. I can’t ignore how superficial life has become for me. A therapist told me to consider my value for simply existing. There are days when I’m able to do that, but many in which nihilism takes over.

How do you avoid the feeling of superficiality? That’s what I struggle with most. It just doesn’t really seem to matter.

I can’t imagine why not. Though, you probably shouldn’t in order to protect your hearing.
My dad was in the military, but I never heard the sorts of things from him that I do now. He has started saying the N word to try to get a rise out of me, thinks Trump is going to “fix” everything, and every time I talk to him on the phone, I can hear fascist talk radio in the background.
We have learned not to bring up politics with each other. The last time I challenged him on it, he said I was being disrespectful, but I don’t accept that. He just thought I was supposed to sit quietly and listen to crazy ranting.
I have learned that in general it’s best to change the subject if someone wants to talk politics who I know I don’t agree with. Most people have gotten the point. We still get along great! We just have polar opposite politics.
Now I know that some people would question why I remain friendly with those people. The answer is that we have more in common than not. Someday, when everyone finally comes to the conclusion that the powerful and foreign are manipulating our political discourse to sow discord, we will finally be at peace again.
