I think the real problem is a government structure that lends itself to being captured by monied interests. The problem of capitalism chasing the money is only a problem because we have a government unable to properly tax the wealthy to ensure no one can amass the kind of wealth that makes it possible to capture the government.
A nice M.L.T. - a mutton, lettuce, and tomato sandwich when the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe…
Sure thing.
1 lb pork shoulder
32 oz water
4 tsp chicken bouillon granules
1 can (14oz) petite diced tomatoes
1 cup of roasted/peeled hatch peppers diced (or 1 cup prepackaged/canned diced)
2 Tbs fresh lime juice
1 tsp tomato paste
1/2 tsp ground pepper
1/4 tsp each paprika, garlic powder, onion powder and cumin
2 Tbs corn starch/2 Tbs water slurry
Directions: Cube pork into 1" cubes and add to deep soup pan over a burner on high. Allow pork to cook through on high heat, allowing it to carmelize and render out a good percentage of the fat (remove rendered fat or leave it in for as decadent as you like it). Deglaze with about 1/4 cup of the water and scrape well to get all the bits loose. Add the rest of the ingredients (except the corn starch/water slurry). Bring everything to a boil, then turn heat to medium/low. Simmer for one hour, until the pork chunks break down. Use a masher to stringify the pork and distribute it throughout. Add 2 tbs corn starch/2 tbs water slurry to boiling mixture at the end and stir to thicken. Allow to cook uncovered for 15 more minutes.
Edit: Finished product looks like this. Apologies in advance for the American measures, lol.
Hatch Green Chile Pepper Soup. It’s cheap, fabulous and spicy. The Hatch green chilis are the star of course, but it also has pork, bouillon, diced tomatoes/tomato paste, lime juice, and spices.

Totally normal, just out of curiosity what was the song?
I had a guy whose name I did know help me out in a bad situation about 30 years ago. But about six months later, I moved across the country and never saw him again. I just recalled him to mind a few weeks ago and… I can’t remember his name.
It felt kind of like a betrayal, I should have remembered, he was a huge help to me when a lot of people hung me out to dry. But such is the imperfection of meat memory. :(

Pretty sure Lemmy got on the influence bot radar some few months ago. Comments are now deeply negative and constantly drumming the 2FA and guillotine remedies to every complaint. Interactions outside of this kind of content I still find Lemmy users to be magnitudes higher quality than Reddit.

Same here. I made sure I quit all the drama subs, all the big subs and I only keep my carefully curated niche content communities in my reddit feed. There’s really nothing on Lemmy about, say… Elite Dangerous, so I still browse it to keep up on what’s new.
What I don’t do is engage. Reddit is too full of bots and too full of itself to be of any usefulness in engagement. I can’t help them, they can’t help me, there’s no point in doing anything but reading on Reddit.
Lemmy, on the other hand, is almost all engagement, because without it there’s not much else, unless you like memes, which I do. Talking to people here is rewarding and interesting, the exact opposite of reddit, which delights in doing nothing but shitting on your head and being generally insufferable/boring.

Another special gifts religious idiot. Sky daddy’s angel babies talk to me on the regular and we’re being poisoned from the sky by dark forces, but it’s everybody else’s brains that have been swept away.
Every day I get up and browse the news and I essentially get called a retard by people like this dipshit. It’s demoralizing, ngl.

I don’t have a library card, but do you mind if I check you out?

Everybody who refuses to use Facebook has to make the same sacrifices that people who do not refuse to use it do not make. No amount of exposition will make us feel better about the fact Facebook continues to exist and contribute to the ruin of society in part because you are not willing to inconvenience yourselves like we already have. Same goes for you fucking X-fascists.
Edit: Every person downvoting this should know better. Using Facebook is bad for society and you should stop doing it.

My entire family lives thousands of miles away and Facebook is all I have to feel connected with them.
Why feel compelled to defend yourself? Use it and accept that you support it - or don’t. No need to apologize to us, you’re not going to convince us that your use case is special or that phone calls and texting don’t exist.
I have never (and will never) use Threads. … Deceptive, garbage marketing practices from a deceptive garbage tech company.
Unfortunately, you use Facebook, which means you do support these practices. How much or how little you use Facebook doesn’t factor into it. Tangentially, it also means you use Threads, because using Facebook means you use anything Zuck wants you use. That’s literally how it works.
Edit: and of course the apologists come out with a nice little soundbite reply that completely ignores what I said here, which, to reiterate, is: defending yourself is a waste of your time because we’re going to “attack” you anyway. Using Facebook is bad for society and you should stop using it.

Maybe you belong on reddit? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It’s worse than this even. I have an old Raspberry Pi 3B+ (1G) that I got in 2018. I hooked it up the other day to mess around with it, it’s been maybe 2 years since I did anything with it, ever since I got a Pi 4 (4G). 1 gigabyte of RAM is now insufficient to browse the web. The machine freezes when loading any type of interactive site. Web dev is now frameworks piled on frameworks with zero consideration for overhead and it’s pure shit. Outrageous.
Comments with -10 score are collapsed by default. Voting is private.
I don’t particularly care for these two items. I used to think user-curation was a good thing, but comparing Lemmy to Reddit, I have to say I no longer feel that way. Voting matters less on Lemmy and I think it’s better for it, all things considered.

And here I am, I don’t really like pop and I don’t really like metal but put them together and I’m in heaven.

Showerthought: mf is mezzo-forte. ff shouldn’t be fortissimo, it should be fezzo-forte.
The founding fathers set this shit up and they knew it was going to go sideways from the moment they signed the paperwork. If anything, it likely lasted longer than they imagined it would.
