Hi! I’m British, I like music (grime, garage, hip-hop, R&B, and more!). I like art, culture, history, politics, & doomscrolling memes.
Also a touch of programming :)

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: If the frontpage constantly looks like the same 5 - 8 posts, try sorting by "Hot".
2·11 months agoMight be worth bringing it up in the voyager community. That definitely shouldn’t be the case.

1·11 months agoThey do not. Are you using Sync for Lemmy? It’s broken and doesn’t hide properly

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do animals think we're cute?
10·1 year agoThis is a popular claim but dubious and probably not true https://skeptics.stackexchange.com/questions/40275/do-elephants-see-humans-the-same-way-humans-see-puppies
It’s better if you untick “show read posts” in your lemmy settings.
I made a list of casual communities on Lemmy awhile ago https://lemmy.world/post/2216085 just subscribe to stuff you like and curate your own feed. Block the politics subs. Boom.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How is Lobste.rs? Why did it break from HN? How does one even get in?English
311·1 year agoLobsters has blocked the Brave browser since a scam in 2019. We still block it because they lie about following standards so they scrape and sell copies of websites. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but they have previously targeted Lobsters by name and have a years-long pattern of bad behavior.
Well, that’s a new one. What you see if you visit it via Brave Browser.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•how do they decide where to put bus stops?English
10·1 year agoIn the US I think busses are generally associated with the bottom of society, so not the customer you want. Just my interpretation

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What games other than Smite have a lot of pantheons (beyond Greek and Norse)?English
6·1 year agoCrusader Kings 3 is a grand strategy game that has some pantheon-related mechanics. e.g as a Hindu you can choose your personal God. There are mods that expand on this somewhat.
It’s not really the primary focus of the game though and doesn’t play a heavy role beyond additional stats.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do you destroy the notion that Democrats are the good guys? Americans seem like a lost cause on that regard
16·1 year agoDon’t let imperfection get in the way of progress. If you move slightly towards the left, you’re opening doors for more left ideology.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do you destroy the notion that Democrats are the good guys? Americans seem like a lost cause on that regard
713·1 year agoWithout electoral reform, there’s no functional reason to. The lesser evil of the current system is Democrats. If you want to enact change, push support for the progressive wing of the party and push for electoral reform.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•*Permanently Deleted*English
4·1 year agoThe real, most simple answer is: you wouldn’t, at least not unless we shift into a world where there are significantly less languages.
Any world government would have to contend with the reality that the world is full of multiple languages. So a number of lingua francas would be chosen as the “official languages” - either the most spoken or the most politically important (probably one and the same).
The idea to create some sort of apolical, unproblematic language just isn’t realistic. If it was, it would’ve already occurred on a mass scale. You could just as easily paint an artificial language in a negative light as you have with English: any artificial language would be taking up the place of a real, authentic language and imposing itself onto peoples who do not speak it (language imperialism of an artificial kind isn’t much better).
Besides, translators are only getting better and better and we already have a number of multi-national institutions that function fine despite the number of languages at play (e.g the EU).

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: Lemmy is Open Source, which means that there are many ways to use the platform through various user created apps. Here is a list.
1·1 year agoWarning, Sync seems abandoned and some features are broken, e.g read posts don’t stay hidden. I’d recommend Boost, Summit, Jerboa, or Thunder
