  • Pick a project you like and donate what you think is fair. The fact that you are donating at all is great man.

I donated $50 to the Dev of the Automation app on fdroid. My car automatically tries to play any media that I had playing before it connected to the car. No way to turn it off, happens on any and every phone ive used. Finally I found this app and made an automation that pauses media after a few milliseconds once the bluetooth connects.

I felt a $50 one time donation was worth it cause they helped me solve one of the most annoying things i deal with. No idea why someone thought that a “feature” shouldn’t have a fucking off button but here we are.

  • Please anyone feel free to correct me if I get anything wrong.

From my understanding, Apps dont change based on the profile they are installed in. They are the same exact app regardless of profile. Profiles just serve to separate apps for different users and further separate apps from each other with them being in thier own directories.

Not all apps that you install from the Google playstore require google play services. Some apps will run just fine without them if the developer decided not to use them during development. If they did decide to use googleplay services, the app may function OK or completely break. Just depends on the app in question.

As far as I am aware, updates will happen separately for profiles. Most apps that are installed via googleplay will install automatically. Same goes for fdroid apps in most cases unless specified otherwise.

I’m not sure what you mean by your last question, fail how? Fail to open or update?

Also, profiles aren’t really necessary for grapheneos to separate google play services from other apps or whatnot because they are already sandboxed. I dont use them myself for this reason.

  • It has helped at least a little for me. It depends though.

I got lots of annoying calls about selling land because they mixed my information with someone else’s I guess. After i signed up, I got less calls like that.

IMO the best thing you can do is be very selective with what info you give out. Use a privacy focused browser, use ublock and privacybadger as well.

Also switching from Verizon to T-Mobile helped with spam. I get way less spam on tmobile at least it feels that way. This is all anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt.

  • Typically the difference is that people with autism and or ADHD experience things more frequently or more intensely than others.

Yes, all these things are normal for most folks, but how often and the severity of these symptoms are diffrent.

For example, I have ADHD, and one of the symptoms of that is I’m easily distracted. For most people, this would sound fairly normal, but even when its something important, or something I want to do, my brain is moving on to a billion other things all at once rather than focusing on the task at hand. Medication helps immensely with this, but it still happens even on my meds at times. That is not normal.

Also the autism spectrum is a spectrum for a reason. Some people appear to cope better than others and some can’t cope at all. Masking is normal but for someone with autism it can be exhausting because some people with autism never stop masking. They are constantly aware they aren’t “normal” and it stresses them out.

Its hard to understand these kinds of feelings if you’re Neurotypical. Our brains work differently from others, which might sound like “I’m special” but honestly, I’d rather not have ADHD. Shit sucks dude. I fucking hate not being able to do things like a normal person. Its a curse.

People ive met with ADHD or autism, its just nice to be seen and feel like were understood which is why these memes are often posted or are popular with those crowds.

  • I actually just set up home assistant today and I personally like using a VM. Feels the most straight forward to me. I’m not a huge fan of docker, mostly cause it feels more complicated than it should be. Thats just me though. Either baremetal or in a VM is the way I like to do things, not just home assistant.

  • Since you mentioned having ADHD in another comment which I also have, some things that have helped me and may also help those without ADHD as well:

    • Remove friction from everyday tasks whenever possible. If you make it easier to get stuff done around the house, you’ll have more bandwidth for other things.

    • Setting alarms for things that you have to do is awesome. really helps with staying organized and just being on top of things. same goes for calendar reminders. keeping a calendar took me a while to get into the habit of but its super helpful.

    • Anything you can have on autopay that you intend to keep like cell service, internet, utilities* etc. you should. It just makes sense rather than going through it each month for so many different things. *Utilities might not be good to have on autopay just in case you have weird discrepancies. one month I had to pay $1000 for electric. I called before I paid that lol.

    • Use a credit card for small things each month to help build credit. i have a card that all its for is my cell service. Its on autopay as well as the payments for that card.

    • Keep things in a cart for a while before buying them, it can help you to determine if you actually want that thing or really need it.

Also just cause others were talking about it, I find using videos as well a tutorials and documentation to all be helpful when troubleshooting/figuring things out, everyone learns differently and ADHD makes things like that harder. Having multiple ways to ingest that info can be helpful IMO. Not that anyone here is necessarily wrong in what they said, just coming from someone that also has ADHD, I get the struggles.

  • I had issues with Pop!OS as well, and after switching to Kubuntu, performance is much better.

It was likely due to the Gnome extensions I was using but without them, Pop!OS just felt really unfriendly to me. I like to be able to tweak everything, its one of the reasons why I switched to Linux in the first place and Pop!os just feels way too locked down compared to KDE. Like you mentioned, it kinda felt like I was fighting it at times, especially trying to change the file manager. What a fucking headache, never got that to work either.

Aside from that, Pop is a decent distro, and I think cosmic is going to make it a lot better because Gnome is really the biggest sore spot IMO.

  • As a artist myself, I think a community dedicated to artists that allows for self promotion would make more sense rather than in already established communities if it doesn’t fit into that communities theme or purpose. So a gaming focused community with a day for game Devs to post about their game makes sense, or a music community where self promo is allowed for an account every few months etc.

As much as I love looking at other peoples work, appreciating their art, and sharing my own, I’m also very mindful that not everyone wants to have that kind of thing in a community dedicated to something else like this one. Self promo stuff can be awesome when someone is passionate about their work but it also can be very spammy type of stuff where someone is a bit too enthusiastic about posting about their album EVERY month.

Thats just my opinion. Nothing wrong with your post asking about it just to be clear.
